I have a preference for engaging in projects that center around digitalization and transformation. One illustrative experience includes our Data Office, where I played a pivotal role in shaping the operational framework and defining forthcoming data-related positions. Furthermore, I provide consultancy to our clients in defining their strategic roadmaps for transformation programs, guiding them from the initial vision to tangible objectives and actionable tasks.
We collaborate closely with our stakeholders, ensuring alignment from the outset regarding our working procedures. This includes establishing the frequency of meetings, our communication channels, and the expected deliverables. I strive to achieve maximum alignment upfront, but I remain adaptable when dealing with changes in scope within an agile environment. We are regularly engaged in SteerCo meetings and contribute to significant events like town-hall calls. This approach allows us to grasp the broader perspective and develop a comprehensive understanding of our business operations.
I find great satisfaction in the opportunity to engage with diverse business units and a variety of topics. This not only contributes to my personal development but also assists me in pinpointing the areas of interest for my future career advancement within the organization. Prior to my role at Inhouse Consulting, I was employed as manager at Accenture Strategy’s Financial Services practice. In this role, I focused on digitalization initiatives within the banking industry utilizing agile methodologies to design new digital banking products and digitize processes. My educational background is rooted in economics, and I hold a master’s degree in management.
I take pleasure in spending time with my nearly 2-year-old son and my husband, as well as with our extended family and friends. During the free time i have, i enjoy reading books with a psychological emphasis.

RAPHAEL KUHLMANN
Senior Manager - Darmstadt Office
With my data science & econometrics background, I have a preference for projects centered around data driven process optimization, advanced analytics and generative AI. Currently, together with other colleagues from IC, we are helping to drive the enterprise rollout of an AI agent for our enabling functions that blends organizational knowledge with real task execution. It aims to turn natural language requests into actions—answering questions, triggering workflows, and completing routine steps end to end. The goal: less friction, faster decisions, and a measurable boost in productivity across Merck.
I lead program management end-to-end— co-development of the roadmap together with workstream leads and project sponsor, aligning stakeholders, and driving delivery. I act as the bridge between technical product development and other key stakeholders, translating needs into clear requirements and ensuring feasibility maps to value. Leveraging my data science background, I bring rigor to prioritization and support in designing the KPI framework, measurement setup, and reporting cadence to track adoption, quality, and impact.
The variety of data and AI projects across the company—from strategy to hands on builds—keeps me learning every week, while the role offers real ownership and continuous growth with en-masse training opportunities. Before joining IC, I was a data scientist at a globally active chemical company, where I was, amongst other things, developing algorithms to find cost-optimal plant production utilization levels and Ensemble Machine Learning based commodity price forecasts. Prior to that, I worked at two different economic consulting firms and did a PhD in econometrics with a focus on forecasting techniques.
Outside of work, I spend as much time as possible with my family and my two daughters particularly. When there’s time left, I enjoy spending time with friends or doing sports such as playing football, cycling, running or hiking. I also tend to never say no to a good espresso.
While the background of each team member at IC is very diverse, what each team member has in common is being passionate about and superbly motivated for their field of interest. SHRUTHI BALASURYAN
Manager - Boston Office
I am currently engaged in two interesting and unique projects. The first is with our US Healthcare business, where I am focused on ensuring launch readiness for a pipeline asset. This project supports all activities related to pre-approval communications for internal & external stakeholders. The second project is with our Life Sciences sector, where I am working to optimize the prototyping process for the Single Use business. This project centers on evaluating the current state prototyping process to inform and shape an ideal future operating model.
As the project lead, my role involves orchestrating efforts among the client team, cross-functional stakeholders, and the IC team to ensure we meet our project objectives. Both projects share common elements, necessitating collaboration with diverse subject matter experts to gather inputs that inform IC analysis and final recommendations. In addition to overseeing client deliverables, I am also committed to coaching and mentoring the associates involved in these projects.
I truly enjoy several aspects of my job: the agency to shape projects in collaboration with clients, the opportunity to learn & develop new skills and interests, the highly motivated IC and client teams working together to achieve better solutions, and the flexible work structure that allows me to balance my professional and family life.
Before joining Merck, I worked in external consulting with a focus on the pharmaceutical industry. I hold graduate degrees in business and public health (MBA/MPH), and prior to my graduate studies, I gained experience in product management within the finance and healthcare technology sectors.
My two kids certainly keep me busy, and I value every moment I get to spend with them. In addition to family time, I enjoy experimenting with new recipes, traveling, and staying active.

Beatriz Pineda

I’m working on a project that focuses on sustainability. Climate change and upcoming new regulations pose challenges that need to be assessed. The variety of our products also adds complexity to these challenges. By operating in a ONE COMPANY approach and looking at both the problems and the opportunities, we can make a big difference in embedding sustainability into our business. Our main stakeholders are our corporate sustainability teams and all sectors with their respective sustainability leaders.
Currently I’m the IC project lead, working with a great team based on a further consultant, a graduate, and an intern to deliver high-quality work for our clients, aligned with our HIC behaviors. I communicate regularly with all our stakeholders, as sustainability requires a collaborative effort. A crucial skill I continuously employ is managing stakeholder expectations and perspectives. The main challenge lies in synthesizing optimal outcomes from often very different approaches.
I appreciate the level of responsibility that we are entrusted with from the first day of our job. This enables me to face new challenges and grow professionally and personally.
I reinvented my career when making the decision to enter the consulting world in the area of transaction and M&A, following the completion of my PhD in polymer chemistry.
During my free time, I listen to podcasts and audiobooks. I'm also passionate about leadership and I always try to learn more about it. But sometimes, my twins demand my attention and I have to switch from leader to follower.

Through IC, I have completed projects across our 3 sectors – Healthcare, Life Sciences and Electronics – interacting with a wide range of clients and colleagues.
One recent example is a strategic engagement we did for the China Office. They required support to explore how we could leverage the thriving science and AI innovation ecosystem in China to bring value across our 3 businesses. We helped to define the value proposition, operating model and clear use cases for an innovation platform to achieve this and obtain buy-in from senior stakeholders.

As a Manager, I act as the engagement lead for my projects. I am responsible for the overall project delivery and also the quality of our deliverables and services.

Before Merck, I spent 4 years consulting with Strategy, with a sectoral focus on Pharmaceutical & Life Sciences, and a functional focus on strategy. Prior to that, I spent around 5 years in the Energy sector before taking up an MBA at London Business School.
